IHME at the Ateneum Art Museum is a collaborative project of The IHME Contemporary Art Festival and the Ateneum Art Museum in Helsinki, where the audience gets to decide who will be the artist of the IHME art workshop.  The project will take place in two parts:  an open competition for the audience and an IHME Workshop at Ateneum in April 2014. The project is part of the Ateneum’s 125th anniversary programme and the programme of IHME Contemporary Art Festival 2014. The concept of contemporary art connects the collaborating parties right now as Ateneum celebrates the anniversary with exhibition entitled “Contemporary Art 125 Years Ago”.

The competition presents five artists and two artist duos of representing different fields of visual art. They are: visual artist Marjatta Hanhijoki, visual artist Ulla Jokisalo, community artists Tellervo Kalleinen & Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen, visual artists Dzamil Kamanger & Kalle Hamm, performance artist Irma Optimisti, installation artist Hans Rosenström, and visual artist Katja Tukiainen.  The proposed workshops vary from sound art, comic art and parachuting to silhouette paper cutting and performance art.

The voting period of the audience competition begins on 22 October and ends on 30 November 2013. The audience can vote for their favorite on the website of the IHME Contemporary Art Festival or on location upon entering the Ateneum Art Museum. A winner will be sought in the competition both among the artists and the audience. The winner of the audience competition will receive a prize consisting of a domestic return trip to Helsinki and a hotel stay for two in the city, as well as enrollment in the winning IHME Workshop and a chance to enjoy other parts of the Ateneum program. The IHME Days will take place at the Old Student House in Helsinki during 4 – 6 April 2014.
